We have not had TV in years. Well, we had a 19 inch unit that was stuck on auxiliary and we used it for DVD’s, but that was it. Seriously. And this was by choice, but that’s a post for another day. Anyway, this Christmas we got a 42 inch plasma TV. I must admit, I was smitten for about the first 2 weeks, watching all the PBS shows, Christmas specials, and NFL football I could absorb.

We do not typically watch network television because it tends to lower one’s IQ. However, the other night I just happen to catch “The Biggest Loser- Couples” and it changed my life. Ok, that’s a bit of an exageration, but it did convict me to get my rear off the sofa. 

It turns out that our local community center offers Zumba classes. If you don’t know what this is (I didn’t) or you have not been to one, find one near you and get there! I have gone the last 2 nights, and I am hooked. And apparently I am not alone. The first night I went, the class was already full, but they let me go in since I had never seen one before. The second night I got there just in time to get the last spot. These classses are hot, hot, hot for all ages and are co-ed.  So, we all look like dorks together but have an awesome time. You’ve never seen a sweaty hour go by so quickly.

The instructor was kind enough to let me get a few shots at the beginning of class. Note: Zumba is done with the lights out and disco ball on, baby!

No flash in these photos. You can’t get a feel for all the motion and lights if I had used the flash. And you REALLY need to get a feel for the motion and lights. We are just getting warmed up here.

The music is mostly ethnically flavored; latino, african, asian, with an ocassional country or rock song thrown in, and all with a definite beat to groove to. Very high energy with a lot o’ hootin’ and hollerin’!

Now we’re gettin’ heated up.

WOOHOO!, Bring it on, Baby!

Whew! Man, I am just reliving the class looking at the photos.  So, your mission this week, should you choose to accept it (of course you accept it), is to find a zumba class in your area and go! No excuses. I mean the class is in the dark. No one can see how flabby anyone else is or if someone misses a step or someone’s socks don’t match and honestly? No one cares. And people do the moves to their own ability. So, like, the instructor should be on TV, but I just do as much as I can and have fun. I am willing to bet that most facilities will let you take a class or two for free to see if you like the place. But, be warned, you will never be the same.
