Winter’s Tease

I can’t sleep tonight. The windows are open and the springlike breeze, at times a gust, just won’t let me. I slip out to the deck and the wood beneath my bare feet is like a long lost friend. It is so beautiful outside, and I don’t want to miss one minute of it. Every winter we get a few days in a row with temps in the 60’s. I think it is God’s way of getting us through the long, cold, gray winters here in the Midwest.
Tonight is like being on the beach in the spring. At night. It’s too cold to swim and too windy to hear anything like crickets or bullfrogs. The seagulls are all alseep, and there are few, if any, people. The sky is clear with the moon glowing. Orion, Canis Major, Taurus, and others are clearly visible. The air smells so good, so clean, so fresh. It’s warm and cool at the same time. I feel alone, but not at all lonely, comforted by the Creator himself through His magnificent creation.
Back in my bed, the curtain of my window billows up with the gusts, and I hear the branches of the willow tree click and clack together. And ocassionally, I hear the snickers and whispers of my four oldest camping out on the trampoline with four cats snuggling up to them and one golden retriever standing guard.
All is right with the world.
Oh yes it is … what blessings … and contentment
